Chains for pulp industry

THE MOST VALUABLE COMPONENTS OF THE FACTORY

De-icing conveyors

De-icing conveyors are among the biggest and the heaviest of all conveyors in a pulp factory. This is why it is important to pay special attention to materials and hardenings when choosing a chain for a de-icing conveyor.

Lapua Chains has worked for decades in collaboration with the leading machine manufacturers and end-users to develop our products. As a result, our de-icing conveyor chains are reliable and long-lasting.

Most of the chains are based on M and Y type conveyor chains. Usually the chains are equipped with different kinds of attachments or replacements as well as with post-lubrication holes. The lubrication gives the chain a longer lifecycle as well as increases its reliability.

APPLICATIONS

Drum and woodchip conveyor chains

Drum and chipper chains are typically similar to the chains in de-icing conveyors. Loads are usually smaller but the speeds used are notably higher. The attachments used differ from those used in de-icing conveyors.

When designing the chains we have accounted for the challenges that high speeds pose to large chains. We also recommend a post-lubrication model for drum and chipper chains.

Chains for bark and woodchip conveyors, and precipitation and waste conveyors

In bark and chip handling, paired chains with welded or bolted attachments are typically used. In precipitation conveyors, the attachments are also often equipped with rubber or plastic scrapers.

In these chains, a longer lifecycle can be achieved by choosing the right hardening and materials. If needed, chain joints can be equipped with rust-resistant parts.

Slasher conveyor

Slasher conveyor

Slasher conveyors require sturdy basic chains equipped with large attachments.

To ensure that the slasher conveyor functions properly, it is essential for the chains to be subject to even wear. If they are worn out unevenly, the alignment of the attachments is affected, which puts it at risk of functional problems. Fully-hardened pins and bushes ensure that the chain wears out uniformly.

The durability and lifecycle of a chain is determined by the wear of both joints and side plates. Combining the chain with hardened side plates, for example, can slow down the wearing process. Unlike other manufacturers, Lapua Chains uses fully hardened side plates, thus ensuring that they wear evenly throughout the chain’s lifecycle.

M- or A-type conveyor chains with welded attachments, also chains replacing profile chains

Chains manufactured from top quality raw materials with the best hardening methods are long-lasting. The process water used in the manufacture of pulp can rust the chains, putting them at risk of wearing, elongating and breaking.

Chain features

Secure chains are the cheapest

Our chains have 40 per cent higher tensile strength than standard requirements, starting from size group M224.

Thoroughly hardened, extremely durable pins and bushes. The internal surfaces of the bushes are also hardened.

Re-greasing holes and lubrication create significant savings in the chain’s total life-cycle costs.

Bushes and rollers are made seamlessly from tubes.

Extremely high-quality raw materials and hardening methods.

Bushes can be hardened from the inside.
